A SHOT AT MILE HIGH - DENVER - JUNE 23RD, 2007 This years shot event was held in the Denver, CO, the "Mile High City" on June 23rd, 2007. We didn't have a local collector in this city so we didn't get to carry on our tradition of Pre-Parties at collectors houses, but as you know, we still found a way to have a party :) We all met up that Friday night at the ESPN Zone, which is a few blocks down from the Hard Rock Cafe. We had a great turnout of shot collectors & even a few pin people showed up too. The King & Queen contest this year was alot different than most years since (A) we had to behave because we were in a public place and (B) Alcohol there is just way too expensive! The challenge was 2 beers and a shot of your choice, whoever drank them the fastest won. For the guys it was Carmen, Floyd, Tom and Trevor. Tom had the first beer gone before the other guys had a chance! Needless to say Tom won by a landslide and the other guys slowly nursed the rest of their beers. For the girls it was Denise and Lois - I figured it was time to let someone else have a chance ;-) The first beer took awhile to go down, then after each doing their shot and maybe a sip of the 2nd beer they were both done. I think Lois drank a tiny bit more than Denise but you can only be the Queen if you finish the challenge and since they didn't I don't think a new Queen was crowned :) Of course Denise had a special shot glass made for the Pre-Party only atttendees, limited to only 36! 48 were made but 12 were all messed up. After the ESPN Zone a group of us went to the Hard Rock to have a few drinks and my good friend Brian Holt tracked me down and we got to visit for awhile - great to see you again!! The next morning (WAYYYY to early) the cafe had a breakfast event for us at 8:00am. Still tired (and in some cases hung-over) no one was really that alert that early, we're night-timers! They had a charity raffle/auction to benefit the American Cancer Society and released the 2 event pins and the first (breakfast) shot glass. After the event we were free to do whatever we wanted until the evening event, so while some people went to the Coors brewery and other places, I went to the Denver Firefighter's Museum - I know, HUGE shock! it was nice because it was only a few blocks from our hotel so I could easily walk. I had a great time and spent awhile reading things and of course taking pictures which I will post on the 2nd page. No firemen though so I was a little upset :) After there I came back to the hotel and my friend Steve, who used to live in St. Louis and be my roommate for awhile, who now lives in Denver had called while I was at the FF Museum so we made plans to meet at the cafe before the event and have a few drinks. The event started at 6:00 so Steve & I went upstairs and we all ordered food....and THEN, that's when the shots started. Once the first one is drank, it is known that many more are to follow :) I mean when people are buying them for me how can I be rude and say no?? LOL - I'm sure my friend Steve thought we were all crazy but he had a great time meeting everyone! Of course my crazy friend Sandy Dang thought she was going to get some blackmail pictures of me....and who knows, with all the shots of Goldschlager and Jack I had, she probably did!! We also had a raffle & auction at the evening event for the ACS and raised a couple thousand dollars between the morning & evening raffle - great job! Needless to say we all had a great time and it was so nice getting to see everyone again. Till next year.........
